How To Emotionally Detach Yourself From Your Home

Regardless of who you are or where you live it's very difficult not to have a distinct emotional attachment to your home, for a variety of reasons. It's probably where your kids grew up, where you celebrated any number of birthdays, anniversaries, summer barbecues and of course where you exchanged gifts at Christmas. It's somewhere you've enjoyed some of the happiest moments of your life, so feeling conflicted when putting your house, apartment or condo up for sale is perfectly natural.

It's important though to rid yourself of that emotional conflict if you want the sale of your home to be a success - we've lost count of how many property owners we've seen subconsciously sabotage the sale of their own property without ever realizing it - all because they were still too attached to the memories contained within those four walls.

So if you truly want to sell your property as quickly as possible, and to make the maximum profit possible, you need to be as objective as you possibly can be about your home. If you mentally reduce your much loved home to being nothing more than a "product" in your mind you'll find that you'll be able to sell it far more easily.

Another really important reason for being dispassionate about your home is that you'll find some potential buyers can be brutally honest about what they think about your paint scheme, decor or location, and although they won't mean to offend you it can be all too easy to get offended when they tell you exactly what they think of your home.

Or they might start discussing how they're going tear down wall x and replace your flower garden with a terracotta-tiled patio instead. This is just idle speculation on the part of the viewers, but it could quite easily cause you to get defensive when dealing with them. Even worse is the fact that people who discuss the changes they'd like to make to a property are usually in a buyer's mindset, so you've probably gotten frustrated with a viewer who was probably just about to make an offer on your home.

It's also a great idea to listen to any feedback, or even criticisms, your viewers share with you about a property. They're giving you some real insight into what buyer's expect from homes in your particular price range and neighbourhood.

We can assure you that the more emotionally detached you become from your property the more quickly you'll be able to sell it.
